Wale : 01 01 2012

The Encore : Ambition Tour : Fillmore Silver Spring : Silver Spring, MD : 01 01 2012 :

For my first concert shoot of the new year, I covered Wale’s “Encore” show – an extension of the “Ambition Tour”. His Board Administration artists Fatz Da Big Fella and Black Cobain opened the show to get things going. It was funny when Black Cobain took the time to address someone that was sending him some not-so-nice tweets right before his performance. However, after Black Cobain killed it, the dude’s tweets switched up (see tweets below). Now, he’s a believer.

Wale hit the stage wearing some red metallic Nike Foamposites, that will not release in stores until who knows when. I’ll definitely be making the purchase though. It’s funny that whenever I shoot a Wale show, he’ll do a quick “shoe pose” to be certain I got the shot of the kicks. However, it always catches me off guard, so I miss the pose – every time. Smh.

I was glad to hear some of the older stuff like “90210″, “The Breakup Song”, “Beautiful Bliss”, and “Chillin”. Once again, “Bait” had the crowd going crazy!

I do wish Wale would’ve performed #DCorNothing. On the eve of our late friend Saeed “Wootie”Alisha’s birthday, I felt like it was fitting. In the song, Wale mentions Saeed, “I lost my ni99a over nothin’ though, Saeed Alisha, I miss ya’ God bless my brother’s soul.”. In memory of Saeed, I even wore my Everyday Pple “Rest in Peace Wootie” t-shirt to the show. As I write this post, #DCorNothing plays in the background, on repeat, as I reminisce. I’ll never forget hearing Saeed say, over and over, “You gotta hear my friend Wale rap!”. That was about 6 years ago. I’m sure he’s looking down at us, proud of our #Ambition.

Sorry for skipping the subject of the concert, but I want to finish this up by saying, Love someone – today. Don’t wait to show/tell them. You may not get another chance to express it.
