Meet LaVan

I am LaVan Anderson, a graphic designer, webmaster, and photographer, whose photos have been published in a number of magazines and blogs. With years of design and photography experience, I have positioned myself as a “go-to” for capturing DC’s entertainment and live music scene, and helping small businesses develop their brands. From time to time I shoot private and corporate events, or people upon special request. I’m an avid concert-goer, so live music photography is my love. Often times, I’m torn between watching a performance as a fan or capturing it through my lens. The adrenaline rush that comes with standing in the pit, hearing the audience go wild, being practically blinded by stage lights, and watching the artist hit their first mark is like no other.
In fall 2007, I launched “Everyday Pple”, a clothing brand determined to steer clear of degrading imagery, profanity, and violence, while promoting the idea of brotherhood. The “everyday people” premise was inspired by the legendary Sly and The Family Stone song, continuing the notion that we are no better than anyone else. I also used the title to brand himself – using the “Everyday LaVan” monicker in many of my online offerings, and to brand myself as a photographer. Paired with that is the fact that I love my concert photography enough to do it everyday.
Periodically I am hired to capture artists’ performances, with the attention paid to brand sponsors, to get those “endorsement shots”. I shoot for a few publications, periodically, but I am typically granted my access courtesy of relationships that I’ve developed with the actual artists and management, venues, and publicists. If you are with a publication, an artist(performing), or a publicist representing an artist, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
